EASPA MEASA / NEMETONA - Split EP - euro 3.00
Easpa Measa is a young irish band that plays very heavy raging modern Crusty Hardcore with a strong political message spitted out by dual fe/male vocalists... this split has two songs that were already on their self made tour CDR "Maggots and Worms" and "Dead Inside" in a new recorded version! Great Band in the Tradition of Irish bands like DAGDA meet up with UNHINGED but also not to compare with them too much as they are way too outstanding! The flip has Japans Nemetona who are totally new to me and also delivering a powerful brand of crusty influenced hardcore punk that come along in three tracks with songs sung in japanese language and no lyric translations so im not sure what they are about! ( Acclaim). " EASPA MEASA from Dublin, Ireland are super female / male vocaled political hardcore 5 piece, and they play amazing crusty melodic hardcore fury. If their sounds are described, it is a sound like Disaffect meets Submission Hold based on Tragedy! (but this is a comparison not significant at all. It will be understood if you touch this band). The 2 songs of this split 7" is re-recording of "Dead Inside" & "Maggots and Worms" from their "Renounce & Dethrone" demo, and these are faster and louder than the demo. their unrelenting lyrics are in English and speak about the police that increase control, our struggle in this world based on greed, violence and power. With Japanese translations of their lyrics of course. An excellent artwork by Glyn of THE DAGDA. By the way, this band's name is traditional Irish language (not spoken by many people any more in Ireland), it is translates as "Lack Of Respect" in English, and pronounced "Ah-spa Mah-sa". NEMETONA is a Japanese female fronted raging crustcore attack. Female vocalist named the "Ascum"-- her insane powerful shout is a charm of this band. Their 3 songs are first recording after the bassist joins, and it becomes a new line up. Moreover, it is a first real recording as for the band. When I saw this band for the first time in "Crust Night 2004" that "Tribal War Asia" organized, and I decided to do release of them in the mind. Their show were awesome. I'm very excited because I achieved the release of this 7" that becomes release of Acclaim's first Japanese band also. " ー Acclaim Never heard of either of these two bands but they make for the best split I've gotten to review so far this year. EASPA MEASA are an amazing Irish hardcore band with a female singer straight from the PINK TURDS IN SPACE rehearsal room. She duels it out with a gruff-voiced male with the same intensity. Musically they have soaring melodic guitars but this band is way too fast to lump in with the armies of TRAGEDY clones out there. They are more along the lines of the German band FAZED in speed and musical texture. Ripping!! NEMETONA are straight up rags-core distorted Japanese hardcore. Think demo-era ABRAHAM CROSS or a slightly less noisy GLOOM. Down-tuned crusty disgust with rabid vocals and ear-splitting solos. Ace!! ー Short Fast & Loud #16 Silence/Easpa Measa - split LP (Sadness of Noise/Acclaim) Easpa Measa / Silence - Split LP ATOMGEVITTER / EASPA MEASA split 7" This is a great new split LP between a pair of Europe's finest crust bands. EASPA MEASA is from Ireland and play a powerful brand of fast hardcore / crust with male / female vocals that can be likened to DISAFFECT or the thrashier side of NAUSEA. SILENCE are from Poland and they deliver another dose of their dark and emotive crust - sounding much more fluid and thought out than their previous releases. Another rock solid new release fore this week.
Silence from Poland are hard hitting crustcore somewhat similar to a band like Fall of Efrafa, with the same style of varying between faster, harder, and heavier stuff. The old Tragedy comparison suits this fine as well, even though Silence are more on the doomy side. Tuned down and powerful.
I know a lot of bands get the same description in lists like this all the time, but trust me on the fact that this is good.
Easpa Measa from Ireland draw influences from great Irish bands like Jobbycrust and The Dagda in some parts and also adds some Ballast to it all. Quite a lot of tempo changes ranging from fast and pissed of to more tribal stuff, with dual fe/male vocals. Good stuff indeed.
3 Tracks from Dublins EASPA MEASA here, one was actually on their 2005 Tour CD but made it on vinyl now. EASPA MEASA getting more out of the best of such "ancient" irish bands such as JOBBYKRUST (withyout the "crankyness") or even THE DAGDA... a brand between those melodies, heavyness, a doze of punkrock vs. more epic driven crust... somehow i cant stop doing name dropping but this reminds me a bit of BALLAST as well. Its good, very good, maybe not new but very good. SILENCE play heavy melodic epic driven crustpunk here similar to FALL OF EFAFRA with a brand of diverse technical guitar playing and a range of tempo changes. Good one on both sides.
Atomgevitter from scotland play fast hardcore/thrash. rocking and full of swagger, like (a lesser)Black Flag sitting on Iommi's porch doing speed.
Easpa Measa from ireland are self-described anarcho/crust. that fits. more of a heavy Antischism with the m/f vocals and guitar/bass work. pretty melodic and catchy in bits. nice.
