Guitars Amps How to get Stevie's tone SRV Signature Stratocaster

Stevie's amps

This picture shows SRV's amp setup during the In Step recording sessions.
On the far left stands a 100-watt Marshall JCM 800 half stack. Next to it is a 150-watt Dumble Steel String Singer head on top of a Dumble 4x12 bottom. Peeking out from the back is a blonde '64 Fender Twin (85 watts and 2 12" speakers). Stacked next to the Dumbles are Stevie's cherished '64 Fender Vibroverbs (they are consecutivly numbered: 5 and 6; Stevie was very proud of having obtained such low serial numbers). Completing the lineup is a pair of 200-watt Marshall heads (a Super Lead and a Super P.A.) sitting atop Marshall 4x15 and 8x10 cabinets.

(This picture does not show all the equipment Stevie used for In Step. For instance, I'm pretty sure he also had a pair of 4x10 Fender Super Reverbs and a Groove Tube feeding a Roland Jazz Chorus - none of which are in this pic.)

Stevie didn't use a lot of effects. He didn't use ANY digital gear of rack-mount gear. For his pedals he had two VOX wah-wah pedals, sometimes he would duct tape them togather. He would also use them both at the same time in different directions. This would create a phasing effect. Sometimes an Octive Wah would be used. Two Ibanez Tube Screemers were for the distortion. Thay would often be used at the same time.
