My name is Shawn
and welcome to Polaris, which among other things is a brand of
snow-mobiles; but I actually had the north star in mind. But
my handle means whatever you want it to, really. I encourage you to
listen to all of my music tracks and share them with your
buddies. The songs are available in the typical MP3 format
we've all grown accustomed to. Bitrates range. I've also included
both complete and incomplete tracks. Why include unfinished
songs? Some songs take me ages to finally finish, so until
then, you're entitled to a preview of what it might sound
like.
I recently
upgraded hosting service for this website so these music
files should download much faster. Please email me with
comments, suggestions or criticism. I always enjoy feedback.

Want
to use some tracks in a presentation or video?
No complaints here, just drop me an email to let me know which
tracks you plan to use. I've had plenty of requests in the
past and I'm not likely to turn you down. I had one guy use
Undercover as a theme to some paranormal
investigations website, so I'm not about to turn you down.
I simply want to see how my music is used. Music can only indulge one of the senses, but a
video or interactive presentation can do so much more.
How do you write your music?
I started playing around with a program called ModPlug
Tracker about seven years ago. This program allows you to
play 'mod' music files and create your own. The best way to
think of a mod file is to use an example. Remember those old
fashioned player pianos that would scroll through specialized
sheet music with small holes in it? Depending on where the
holes were in the paper, the piano would know which key to suppress.
Mod music is something like that in that it is sequenced. The
computer plays samples at varying frequencies as it scrolls
through sheets of code. For this reason, mod playback does
take some CPU processing depending on the number of channels
in the song. Each channel can play one sound effect at a time.
Therefore, to create the effect of a chord, you might need
three or four channels playing different notes all at once.
ModPlug is a free

program
and it's easy to learn since you can open other artist's mod
files and see how the code functions as the song plays.
AMOD Project
AMOD
is a single-player upgrade game mod for Half-Life I. While the
graphics aren't so impressive, I hope you will find the
soundtrack to be enthralling- after all, I did write it. You
can check out the game here,
but you will need the original Half-Life executable to run the
game. Since the game sucks hardcore, I suggest you just download the
soundtrack, since it is the only thing which adds the
slightest bit of interest to the gameplay. Unfortunately, the
Half-Life engine does not support mp3 in it's base state.
While the
Natural Selection mod features MP3 integration, the AMOD
development team did not put forth the effort to code in this
feature. So, in the actual game, the sound files are
all reduced to PCM wav format at 22,050 khz mono. If you don't
know what that means, it means bad. Real bad.
