Tisdale says, "We live in a world that is sex-drenched and sex-phobic". We are literally drowning is a sea of sexuality. And because we are so engulfed by sex, we cannot think about it in anything approaching an adult, rational way. Even adults euphemize and stigmatize sex, until our entire culture is left talking in the baby talk of 'down there' and 'thingies'. Though Tisdale deals with an incredibly delicate subject, she does so gently, with wit and humor. This book affords a compassionate, wry look into the American libido from a historical and political point of view. I have to say that his book may shock some people. I am not so sure that shock would be a bad thing, though. Perhaps more people need to be jolted out of their juvenile attitudes toward sex. This is a wonderful book. |
