A Fisherman of the Inland Sea

How do we share experiences? Can we ever truly share our experiences? Is there one proper method of expression? What are the consequences of our perceptions? Each of these themes is explored in A Fisherman of the Inland Sea. This is a book of short stories that revolve around these questions. LeGuin contemplates these issues through many characters in many different situations. Her vibrant characters and relationships breathe life into a thought exercise that may easily have become boring or didactic. LeGuin's worlds are lovingly created to be different, yet not alien to the reader. Her descriptions are neither too sparse nor too overwhelming.
