Four Ways to Forgiveness
Four Ways to Forgiveness is a collection of interwoven novellas centering around the revolt and revolution of a slave society from its overlords. Each novella explores the participation of a character in the creation of a new society. Through their experiences, we see the effects of revolution, and we explore some of the most fundamental of human drives: freedom and self-expression.
I am still in awe of the way in which Ursula LeGuin has woven four interrelated, yet somehow distant stories into a seamless whole. The characters are almost entirely different in their station and upbringing, but the revolution affects them all. Each undergoes a profound growth over the course of their story, each learns how to forgive. Through their eyes, we can understand more about the human consequence of activities we normally know of merely as 'political uprisings'.
