Shogi i Slottsskogen 2003

Översättning kommer
This Saturday the tournament "Summer Shogi" was played outside at the restaurant Villa
Belparc located in the beautiful park Slottsskogen in Goteborg. Until Saturday, the weather
in Sweden had been very dry and hot so far this summer. So dry and hot that in many places
it has been forbidden to light a fire and to sprinkle your lawn. Somewhat unfortunately,
this dry and hot weather came to an end this Saturday, replaced by cool air and a continuous
 downpure.

Despite the wheater not less than 10 brave shogi players turned up to play 4 games of shogi.
Interesting starts were made by Jonas Ahlqvist who has shown to be in great form lately in
the Swedish Championships for teams and Martin Danerud who has developed a lot during his
recent trips to Japan.

There were no surprises in the first two rounds of the tournament when all players rated in the
upper half managed to win their games. In the third round there were some slight surprises. Jonas
convincingly won against me thereby sharing the lead with Martin Danerud who so far had made a very
solid impression during his games. Tor Gammelgård won against Anders Vidal and thereby secured the
rating price for players between 6-10 kyu. Winning this game also gave Tor a shot at the bronze and
perhaps also the silver medal if winning his last round. Another slight surprise was Daniel Wredenberg
win against Mikael Jansson. By that Daniel secured the medal for best player between 11-15 kyu.

In the last round the two players with perfect score, Martin Danerud and Jonas Ahlqvist, faced each
other in a direct final. This turned out to be a very one-sided game. Jonas misplayed the opening and
he was not given any chance to recover after that. Martin, who seemed to be the strongest player during
the tournament, thereby won the gold medal with a perfect score.

Tor Gammelgård and I played each other in the last round. The pot consisted of the bronze medal or even
a slight chance to win the silver medal. In a very tough game Tor chased my king into the middle of
the board but failed to deliver mate. Instead I managed to turn the tables thereby vinning the bronze.

Goteborgs Shogi Society would like to thank all participants for their interest and welcome all of you
to the next years competition.
